Heartnut Festival - New Harmony Gets Up Close And Personal !!!     by A.J. Alletto

Well folks,  I must admit, this was an interesting debut for me.  My first show with New Harmony !  I was really excited.  I wanted everything to be just right.  When I first looked at the weather report for the festival, it said "clouds and high of 77 degrees" .   Perfect !  I thought...  In getting ready for the show, I packed our sound equipment and headed down to Franklin Indiana, The Johnson County Park.   For this show,  I brought two banjos.  My standard show banjo, an Ome Juggernaught  (nickel plated) and my pride & joy banjo, a gold engraved OME Renaissance banjo. (cost about half of a new car !)  I'd never had that banjo out in public before and I thought it was fitting that I try it on my first time out with New Harmony. 

The festival was great,  lots to do, eat etc.  After getting the sound system set up, we went to Don's RV to do a little warm up playing.  THAT'S WHEN THE RAIN CAME !!    Rick C. and I hustled back over to the stage to find the sound equipment pretty wet.  We gathered it up and covered it as best we could, cause the rain was gonna quit soon right ?   WRONG !!

We decided that we were not going to let our fans down by canceling the show so.....  We gathered around in the tent that the festival provided for the audience and told everyone to get up close and we would play without the sound system.  We were packed in the tent pretty tight.  We were all standing in water and Rick R. Don and I were getting our backs rained on.  We had a good time though and I think the audience enjoyed the "up close and personal" show.
